Class structure
- Dogs should be over 1 year old (or close to) and good with other dogs/people.
- Classes will usually have up to 4 dogs with owners and will last about an hour.
- All the training is positive and force free using food and toys as a reward.
- This is a fun agility class – I am not trying to get you to a competition standard. It is about your dog becoming more confident and focused on you and you both having a good time safely 😊(Although there may be some fun competitions over the weeks!!)
- Each class will have a warm up, some foundation games, obstacle work, handling skills and a cool down. We will build up the skills over the sessions.
- Some obstacles do present a risk and I will decide each week what obstacles are appropriate for your dog’s ability/age/size etc.
- Dogs will be kept on lead at first and in between turns.
- There will be some turn taking where you and your dog may be waiting for a few minutes while others have a go at something.
- I will adapt the exercise to the level of you and your dog – do not worry if you are not at the same level as anyone else in the class, they may have been doing it for a lot longer.
- Class runs every Saturday at 9.30am (unless I tell you in advance a class is not happening).
- If you have booked more than one class attendance is flexible so if there is a Saturday you cannot make then it can rollover until the next week.
- On the Thursday before I will send a message out to confirm who will be attending on the Saturday so I know the numbers and can plan the class.
- You do have a limited amount of time to use up all your sessions (See Terms and Conditions).
Things to bring
- Plenty of your dog’s food/treats (more than you think you might need!). Bring
- high value treats (e.g. chicken or cheese)
- low value treats (e.g. kibble or carrot)
- Treat bag or pockets so you can access the treats easily and quickly (while running!).
- A toy or ball they enjoy playing with.
- Collar with name tag and lead (they can arrive in a harness but we will take this off during the lesson in case it gets caught on any obstacle).
- Poo bags.
- Water (for you and your dog).
Before Class
- Feed your dog at least at an hour before class.
- You will be moving around with your dog so please wear appropriate clothing and shoes. The ground can be quite dusty/muddy.
- Encourage your dog to go to the toilet before you leave!
On arrival
- Park outside my house in front of the green netted fence (to the left of the gate as you look at it) and please wait in your car until someone comes to meet you.
- Then with your dog on lead, you can make your way to the training field.
- If no-one comes to meet you with less than 5 minutes until the session starts please message or phone me.
- Please shut any gates that you pass through.
During class
- Please don’t let your dog on any apparatus that isn’t being actively used.
- If we are taking turns for an exercise please keep your dog on lead and as calm as possible between turns.
- Break away when needed for water or toilet (please pick up any dog mess and there is a toilet for owners use).
- Ask questions at any time.
- If your dog, or someone else’s, gets over excited (barking/zoomies), keep calm and carry on!
At the end of the class
- Ask any final questions.
- Put your dog on lead.
- Clear up any rubbish/dog mess and collect all belongings.
- You will be escorted out back to your car.
- There may be another class starting after yours so please make space for any new arrivals.
